I’m a writer based in South Wales, with an unhealthy obsession with stationery and baking. I mainly blog for my own sanity, but I’m also working on a novel. Still.

I’m Journaling

I’m part of a mums wellbeing group and this week we’ve been tasked to start journaling.

Trifle Time

I’ve never made a trifle before, so today’s pudding was a dessert to remember.

Camomile Cookies

A new recipe today…

An unforeseen benefit of masks

You may have seen my previous post on why I don’t like the face masks we’re supposed to be using in lockdown. Today I found an unforeseen benefit!

We’re freeeee!

Today my family came out of shielding from covid-19.

Easier Said Than Done

My family is coming out of isolation tonight, after two weeks of shielding, and we’re trying hard to get into the habit of not touching our faces.

Chinese Coconut Buns

Remember I’m working through my Buns of the World recipe book? Well, today it was the turn of Chinese Coconut Buns.

Naan Breads

We’re isolating here, as part of my recovery from appendicitis, so when we needed naan bread, I knew it was time to try baking it!

Creative Play in Lockdown

I’m trying to think of new ways to entertain my 10 month old during lockdown (and another week of household isolation). It takes some imagination sometimes, but I think we are doing ok!

Family favourite: Bread buns

During lockdown I’ve been working my way through my bread recipe book and have found our favourite bread buns.

It got off to a bad start when Lidl, our local supermarket, didn’t  have plain Madeira cake (only chocolate and vanilla marble, but yum!) and no ameretti biscuits.

I cheated quite a lot, in that I didn’t make a syrup (lazy and cutting down on sugar intake), made jelly using a packet, and the biscuits on top were chocolate covered digestives. My dad says that’s not a trifle, but it tasted pretty damn good! And he didn’t get a bite as we’re in lockdown, so… neerrrrrrr!!

Productive thing for today – tick!

Today we tried sensory spaghetti.  I made up a batch of spaghetti, drained it, added a splash of oil and divided it into three. I dug out some old food colouring and made some decent colours… but Rox didn’t engage as much as I’d hoped  she ate a bunch and lots went on the floor, but hey, we tried!

My husband likes white, sweet, soft bread, forever complaining about soda, rye, and sliced shop bread. My 10 month old has just two teeth so can’t chew crusts etc. I just like bread.

Finally, I’ve found one that suits us all! The recipe technically wasn’t printed in the recipe book I’m working through during lockdown, but was a news clipping from 1998 (!!) I’d stashed inside. What a find!

Try it yourself, here’s the recipe… I made eight buns (15 mins cooking) with this, but a loaf works well too.
